Uptil now, we have been meeting every saturday at the terrace of the Raman Building. One of us owns a 5" Newtonian telescope and we have been using it along with the 3" reflector of the Physics Department. We want a much bigger one, of course, and shall get it some day.
We are an amateur astronomy organisation, which basically means that we like looking at the sky. We do not plan to have lectures on Astrophysics and Cosmology, for example ! Hence no `prerequisite' is required to join the club.

During the last month, we have been

• • Learning the night sky - constellations, planets and the brighter stars ,
  • Learning to use star maps ,
  • Learning to use the telescopes in conjunction with the maps to locate reasonably bright objects.

 We plan to

• • Start looking for fainter deep sky objects in the Messier catalog ,
  • Arrange a couple of slide shows on the sky ,
  • Maybe do a few simple interesting amateur astro projects ,
  • Try to build a telescope in summer with the help of the ABAA (Association of Bangalore Amateur Astronomers) ,
  • Go on field trips once in a while with the telescope to sites with absolutely dark skies ,
  • Anything else we want to do !
