INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS EXCHANGE PROGRAMME (ISEP)

Director, Indian Institute of Science has approved the introduction of a new International Student Exchange Programme (ISEP) that will be administered by the International Relations Cell (IRC). ISEP will provide foreign travel support to a limited number of IISc students every year. This support is restricted to exchange of students under Memoranda of Understanding signed by IISc with various foreign universities/institutions (see the IRC website http://www.iisc.ernet.in/ircell for a list of MOUs). The host institute abroad needs to provide local hospitality of the IISc student. The student should stay for a minimum of one month at the foreign university/institute. ISEP will only provide travel support. Visa charges and health insurance costs should be borne by the student or research supervisor. Please note that the proposed visit of the student to a foreign university is expected to be preceded or followed by a corresponding visit by an exchange student of the foreign university to IISc. ISEP will provide local hospitality for this student (typically for 3 months). The travel costs of this exchange student need to be borne by the foreign university/institution. Kindly note that ISEP will not provide support for travel to conferences/workshops.

A student who is interested in availing travel support under ISEP should send a letter to the Chairman, IRC forwarded by his/her research supervisor and the Chairman of the concerned Department. The following documents should be enclosed:

  1. Biodata (with a recent photograph) of the student (including current CGPA).
  2. a. Half to one page write up with the name of the foreign university/institution, period of visit, details regarding the faculty member hosting the visit.
    b.  One page write up on the research programme planned for the visit.
  3. A formal letter (on letterhead) from the host university/institution agreeing to provide local hospitality to the student for the duration of the visit.
  4. Concrete details regarding the visit of an exchange student from the foreign university (name of student, period of visit, name of the local host at IISc) if available.

The IRC Committee will process the applications and recommend to the Director a list of students to be supported under ISEP. This will be done within one month of the receipt of the application. Students are advised to submit their applications to IRC at least 3 months before the start of the proposed visit. Immediately after returning from an ISEP supported visit abroad, the student is expected to submit a report to IRC detailing the work accomplished during the visit.
