SHORT TERM STUDENTS


If you are applying for a short-term position in IISc

Thank you for your interest in pursuing a short-term project/internship at the Indian Institute of Science. There are no deadlines for applying for such short-term visits. A step-by-step application procedure is given below.

  • First identify an appropriate faculty member in of the Departments/Centres whose interests match with yours.
  • Obtain the consent of this faculty member via e-mail.
  • Fill the on-line application form.
  • Request one referee to submit a recommendation letter for you.

Financial Requirements
You need to ensure that you have enough financial resources to pay tuition and other fees. Please follow this link for further details. If your University/Institution has a Memorandum of Understanding with IISc, your tuition fee can be waived.

    Visa Information
    You need to apply for a student visa. Apply for your visa at the Indian Embassy/Consulate nearest to you with the admission letter and other necessary documents.

    Housing
    You will be provided a room in the students’ hostel on campus.

    Health Insurance
    Only minor illnesses can be treated at the Institute Health Centre. Therefore it is prudent to carry an appropriate health insurance that covers the entire duration of your stay at IISc.

    Registration with Police
    All foreigners arriving at the Institute who are likely to stay for more than 180 days in India have to report to Police (Commissioner of Police, Bangalore City, Bangalore) within 14 days from the date of arrival in India (not the date of arrival in Bangalore). You need to bring 6 passport size photos and your passport to IRC Office as soon as you arrive at IISc.

    Identity Card
    With enhanced security measures in place, it is essential that you get an Institute identity card upon arrival. You need to bring 2 passport size photos to the IRC Office so that a letter to the Security Officer (requesting for ID card) can be given to you. With this letter, you can meet the Security Officer and obtain the ID card.

    Hostel and Mess Facility
    Hostel and dining facilities will be provided to you once you pay the appropriate fees and deposits (click here for details). You need to go to the Hostel Office for this purpose.

    Gymkhana Facilities
    Access to the gym, swimming pool etc will be provided once you pay the appropriate fees and deposits

    Bank Accounts
    It is advisable to open a Savings Bank account with one of the local Banks. Two banks have branches within campus: State Bank of India and Canara Bank.
